Now, I know how easy it is to get confused with the plethora of options on the web. So, I’ve divided this article into 3 sections to make your research easier:

Here are our reviews of the top bike baskets for small to medium dogs under 25 pounds.

#1: BarkBay All-in-One Pet Basket

“Best rated small dog bike basket”

Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 18 pounds
  • Item dimensions (L x W x H): 11 x 12 x 14.5 inches
  • Item weight: 3.95 pounds
  • Material: Oxford cloth
  • Placement: Front mounting
  • Warranty description: Lifetime
  • What’s in the box: all-in-one basket, 3x base insert, fleece bottom pet mat, adjustable shoulder strap, fixed ring.
  • My thoughts on the BarkBay All-In-One Pet Basket:

If you have a dog that’s under 18 pounds, then I think this basket / bag / pet-carrier is a no-brainer. This thing costs less than $50! Coupled with free shipping and lifetime warranty, the decision to buy this product is extremely easy.

Think about it – with this bag, you can bring your pet anywhere you go:

    • If you’re riding a bike, you can strap it to your handlebars.
    • If you’re driving a car, you can use this as a car seat pet carrier.
    • If you’re backpacking, you can use this as a backpack.
    • If you’re commuting, you’ve got two options – hoist this as a backpack or a shoulder bag!

And if you're thinking the thick Oxford cloth will suffocate your dog while you’re traveling, don’t worry about it. There’s a mesh on the front panel. To let the air in, just roll up the side panel.

Also, I like how the basket/bag’s opening is in drawstring form. This means you can easily adjust the size of the opening. So, you don’t need to be worried about your dog falling out (if you don’t tether him inside).

Additionally, the 2 side pockets are a practical addition. You can put your dog’s leash in there as well as some treats. Heck, you can even put your own stuff in there – your keys, phone, water bottle, etc.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Excellent value for your money!
    • Very practical and versatile bag
    • Can use as bike basket, car carrier, booster backpack and shoulder bag
    • Comfortable and roomy interior
    • Adjustable, drawstring opening helps secure pet’s safety
    • Breathable mesh vent so dog doesn’t overheat or suffocate
    • Lifetime warranty

    Cons

    • Support is not as rigid as other models

CONCLUSION: Is the BarkBay All-In-One Pet Basket a good buy?

It surely is! Relative to its price, it offers a lot of features that are found in more expensive pet bike baskets. You can literally bring your dog anywhere you like, and he’ll be comfortable all throughout the ride.

If you need to go for a walk and put your dog on a leash instead of letting him ride in the bike, you can just collapse the bag and store it flat.

While this basket/bag isn’t probably going to win any fashion awards, it’s not an ugly-looking bag by any means. It’s practical, versatile, and economical. And the team here at FurBabyGuide.com heartily recommend this product!

#2: PetSafe Solvit WICKER Bike Basket

“Most stylish dog bike basket for dogs up to 13 pounds”

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 13 pounds
  • Item dimensions (L x W x H): 16.5 x 10 x 13 inches
  • Item weight: 5.95 pounds
  • Material: Rattan
  • Placement: Front mounting
  • Warranty description: One year against materials and workmanship
  • What’s in the box: wicker basket, faux sheepskin liner, sunshade, adjustable safety leash, mounting bracket kit, leather straps, and cinch straps.
  • My thoughts on the PetSafe Solvit Wicker Tagalong Basket:

Small, fluffy puppies and toy breeds up to 13 pounds will absolutely love getting on board this dog carrier for bicycles! Why? Because the sheepskin liner on this thing is extremely comfortable and ultra-luxurious!

Now, I’m sure it’s great to know your fur baby is going to be comfortable inside the basket. But what about your wallet? You’re probably dying to know.

Well, I’ve got some good news for you! This basket isn’t going to break the bank. In fact, it’s quite surprising how affordable this is considering it’s premium look and feel!

Putting this thing together is a breeze. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to assemble and set up. So, no hair-pulling is going to happen during the whole process!

And if you’re worried about cleaning up, PetSafe’s got you covered as well. The sheepskin liner is easy to remove, so you can wash it by hand or take it for a light spin on the washing machine.

Lastly, you'll be pleased to know that the materials used on this thing is top notch. The resin wicker is weather-resistant, so you don’t need to worry if you get caught in the rain. Just give it a good wipe and let it dry, and it’ll be ready for your next adventure in no time at all!

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Durable construction thanks to weather-resistant resin wicker
    • Your pet will love the luxurious feel of the faux sheepskin liner
    • Adjustable safety leash keeps your dog safe
    • Liner is easy to remove and clean
    • Removable sunshade has practical uses but also gives the whole basket a stylish and chic look!
    • Great value for your money

    Cons

    • Liner can pick up dirt easily so probably best to avoid using in wet weather
    • No side pockets

CONCLUSION: Is the PetSafe Solvit Tagalong Wicker Dog Carrier a good buy?

Well, considering how much it’s selling for, I’m not surprised at all that this is an Amazon’s Choice product. With hundreds of positive reviews from happy pet owners, I wouldn’t hesitate to say the same thing – this is a very good buy indeed!

So, if you’ve got a small pup just raring to go out to the park, click on the button below to get the latest price! This truly is one of the best front bike baskets for dogs today!

    #3: PetSafe Solvit DELUXE Basket

“Most practical front bike basket for dogs up to 13 pounds”

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 13 pounds
  • Item dimensions (L x W x H): 17 x 12 x 10 inches
  • Item weight: 5.25 pounds
  • Material: Nylon
  • Placement: Front mounting
  • Warranty description: One year against materials and workmanship
  • What's in the box: basket, padded bottom panel, 2 side panels, sunshade, mounting bracket kit, sewn-in safety leash, and shoulder strap.
  • My thoughts on the PetSafe Solvit DELUXE Tagalong Basket:

Price-wise, this nylon deluxe pet basket is a bit cheaper than the wicker version. Specs-wise, they’re roughly the same. Although it is lacking the extra-comfy sheepskin lining found in the wicker version, this deluxe model does have an edge.

You see, this isn’t just a regular bike basket. With the included shoulder strap, you can transform this from a simple bike basket to a much more versatile pet carrier that you can carry around everywhere!

Here’s the thing: traditional bike baskets are fixed to your bike. This means this thing goes wherever your bike goes. But with this deluxe model, you can bring this with you when you ride on the bus, train, or even ferry boat!

Just like the wicker version, this basket also includes a removable sunshade. You can use this when the sun’s too hot or when it’s drizzling outside.

I also like the extra pockets (both mesh and zippered) on this thing – there are 4 to be exact. Two on the right, one in front, and another one on the left side. I find this to be more than enough to put your dog treats in, your water bottle, and some other knickknacks you want to bring along on your adventure.

Regarding its appearance, it may not look as posh or as chic as the wicker version. But for all intents and purposes, nylon is a very practical material. It’s easy to clean (just give it a good wipe or brush for the more stubborn dirt) and it’s a pretty light material as well.

Lastly, I like how there’s a reflective stripe on the bag. It makes it easier for other people (especially car drivers) to see you and your dog.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Durable, light nylon material used
    • Included shoulder straps converts this from bike basket to versatile pet carrier
    • Reflective stripe for easy visibility
    • Zippered pockets to store various knickknacks
    • Removable and foldable sunshade
    • Cheaper than the wicker model

    Cons

    • Not as stylish as the wicker version
    • Comes in only one color – light gray

CONCLUSION: Is the PetSafe Solvit DELUXE Tagalong Basket a good buy?

Oh, absolutely. Just like the wicker model, this deluxe model is also an Amazon’s Choice product. In my opinion, this is a more practical version than the wicker model.

The versatility is miles ahead thanks to the included shoulder strap. And the zippered pockets make it a no-brainer for people who don’t want to lug around a separate bag when traveling with their fur baby.

    #4: Travelin K9 Pet-Pilot (MAX) Basket

Best mountain bike dog basket for pets up to 20 pounds

    Technical Specifications:
    • Max load: 20 pounds
    • Item dimensions (L x W x H): 16 x 13.5 x 9.5 inches
    • Item weight: 4.4 pounds
    • Material: Oxford
    • Placement: Front mounting
    • Warranty description: 5-10 days (check here)

My thoughts on the Pet-Pilot (MAX) Dog Bicycle Basket:

The Pet-Pilot dog bike baskets come in two versions – original and max. The original version is best suited for small dogs up to 10 pounds. The max version, on the other hand, is best suited for dogs up to 20 pounds.

Note that these weight limits are arbitrary at best. This is because the Pet-Pilot uses a steel mount and a steel frame. And the manufacturer guarantees that as long as your pet fits inside the basket comfortably, the mount can support their weight.

Obviously, this is going to be great news for pets who are chonky and heavy for their size. Likewise, if you’ve got two small dogs, you can also squeeze both of them inside and take them for a quick ride!

The two-point chrome clasp which attaches to your dog’s harness is also a nice feature.

The basket itself is spacious, but what really sets it apart from other pet bike baskets is the fact that there’s an air vent at the front of the basket. This cools your dog’s lower body, so he’s not going to hyperventilate inside.

The material used on the outside is a heavy-duty oxford cloth. And the inside is lined with soft, stain-resistant Sherpa fabric which ensures your dog’s comfort.

But the biggest selling point about this basket is the patented steel mount. Here’s why: the rubber bushings, stabilizer bar, and the mounting hooks all ensure the basket’s stability all throughout the ride.

While this is indeed a welcome feature, this doesn’t mean you should be taking your dog out on bumpy, mountain roads. You can do this, of course, but it’s best to err on the side of caution. Just stick to paved roads and make the ride as comfortable as possible for both you and your pets!

The side pockets are also a nice addition. Now, these aren’t zippered like the PetSafe Solvit DELUXE Tagalong Basket, but it’s still better than nothing.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Can accommodate heavier pets up to 20-25 lbs
    • Sturdy steel mount and frame
    • The zippers on the side are great
    • Rubber sleeves protect handlebars from scratches
    • Front air vent
    • 9 color options!

    Cons

    • No sunshade
    • Pricey

CONCLUSION: Is the Pet-Pilot (MAX) Dog Bike Basket a good buy?

Yes, it is! If you’ve got heavier-than-normal small dogs that aren’t going to fit inside the cheaper Solvit Tagalong baskets (both deluxe and wicker models), then this Pet-Pilot MAX is a good buy.

The patented stability on this thing is a great feature, and one that pet owners should prioritize. The color options are nice too if you want to stand out from the sea of lookalike pet bike baskets!

    #5: Snoozer Dog Rider Lookout

Best rear-mounted bike carrier for dogs up to 24 lbs

    Technical Specifications:
    • Max load: 24 pounds
    • Item dimensions (L x W x H): 19 x 16 x 10 inches
    • Item weight: 5.5 pounds
    • Material: Oxford
    • Placement: Rear mounting
    • Warranty description: One year

My thoughts on the Snoozer Dog Rider Bicycle Seat Lookout:

If you’re looking for a rear-mounted dog basket for your bike, then you’ll love this Snoozer. Especially if you’ve got a bigger dog. Why? Because this basket accommodates dogs that weigh up to 24 pounds.

This is great because driving around town with a heavy basket on your front handlebars isn’t ideal at all. It will make steering a lot harder and if you’re not strong enough, can quickly tire you out.

Fortunately, rear-mounting baskets like this do exist. The only downside is that for this particular product, you’ll need to purchase the bike rack yourself.

Obviously, the 24-pound max dog weight that this basket can accommodate will depend on the quality of the rack you purchase. If you buy a cheap and flimsy one, then chances are it’s not going to support your dog’s weight. So, it’s best to look for a sturdy bike rack that can support your dog.

The good news is the basket’s base is reinforced with plywood, so your dog’s going to have firm footing inside.

Also, since this is an open-top basket, you’d need to make sure your dog is strapped in. There’s a three-point safety strap which you can then attach to your dog’s harness. This way they can peek outside, but you don’t need to worry about them falling over.

The quilted cover and faux fur inside will also help make your pet feel comfortable. This has no breathable side vent like the Pet-Pilot MAX basket, but since it’s open-top, ventilation shouldn’t be a problem at all.

A reflective strip is also sewn directly on the quilted cover, so it’s going to help alert other people to your presence.

Lastly, the good thing about big, roomy baskets is that you can squeeze in two small dogs inside and still have some space to move around! Just don’t forget to strap both of them in to avoid any accidents.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Big, spacious design
    • Can accommodate bigger dogs up to 24 pounds
    • Quilted cover is removable and machine-washable
    • Your dog will love the soft fur lining
    • The thick foam side panels and plywood-reinforced base keeps your dog steady inside

    Cons

    • No sunshade
    • Will need to purchase bike rack separately
    • No pockets

CONCLUSION: Is the Snoozer Dog Rider Bicycle Seat Lookout a good buy?

Yes, it is. This Snoozer is a bit more expensive than the Solvit baskets, but then again those can only accommodate dogs up to 13 pounds.

If you’ve got a heavier dog (24 pounds max) but you’re not yet ready to splurge on a dog trailer, then this is a good investment. Your dog will love this – and so will you!

#6: Axiom QR Dual Function Pet Basket

Best 2-in-1 Pet Basket for dogs up to 55 lbs

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: Handlebar – 8 pounds; Rack – 55 pounds
  • Item dimensions (L x W x H): 16 x 11.8 x 7.1 inches
  • Item weight: 4.12 pounds
  • Material: Vinyl-dipped steel
  • Placement: Front and rear mounting
  • Warranty: Lifetime
  • My thoughts on the Axiom QR Dual Function Premium Pet Basket:

You know, if you’ve got a couple of different-sized dogs, then this may be the right pet basket for you. The 2-in-1 versatility will come in handy plenty of times.

For a smaller dog (up to 10 pounds), you can attach the basket to the front handlebars. But for a bigger dog, you can’t set the basket up front because it’s going to sag from all the weight it has to carry. So, it would have to be the rack in the back for a more stable ride for your fur baby.

Now the advertised weight for rear loads is up to 55 lbs. But the basket itself is not that big, so keep this mind if you’re thinking of letting your muscular pit bull ride this thing.

Even if your dog fits the weight requirement, make sure he’s actually comfortable inside the basket. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose of using one. In this case, you’d probably be better off spending a few hundred bucks on a good quality pet trailer!

You’re probably thinking your dog’s not going to be comfortable on the steel basket. Well, that may be true. Unfortunately, Axiom doesn’t include a cloth lining with your purchase, so you’d need to insert one yourself. Perhaps your dog’s favorite blanket will do. The good thing is if the basket gets dirty, you can just hose it down!

Lastly, I like how Axiom is offering a lifetime guarantee for this basket. This speaks volumes about how they stand behind the quality of their products. Just have your proof of purchase ready and they’ll help you get a replacement if any manufacturing defects are uncovered later on.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Quick release function makes it easy to attach onto either handlebar or rear rack
    • Anti-microbial padded basket floor liner
    • Can handle heavy dogs up to 55 lbs if rear-mounted
    • Easy to clean
    • Solid construction means it’s not going to fall apart after getting rained on!
    • Lifetime warranty

    Cons

    • No sunshade
    • No pockets
    • Not as comfortable for dogs unless you put a thick blanket in

CONCLUSION: Is the Axiom QR Dual Function Premium Pet Basket a good buy?

Yes, it is. Personally, I love the simple, basic look. It’s easy enough to clean if it gets dirty, so I wouldn’t hesitate to let my dog run in the mud and then put them in the basket after.

The versatility is also a welcome feature. Small dogs can go in front and bigger dogs can go in the back. Also, the price isn’t too bad. In fact, for the lifetime warranty offered on this thing, I’d say the price is a steal!

Here are our reviews of the top bike trailers for dogs up to 165 lbs!

    #1: Schwinn Rascal Pet Trailer

Best budget dog bike trailer for pets up to 50 lbs

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 50 lbs
  • Interior dimensions (L x W x H): 32 x 21 x 21.50 inches
  • Item weight: 27 pounds
  • Wheel size: 16 inches
  • Warranty: 1-year
  • My thoughts on the Schwinn Rascal Pet Trailer:

When you get this trailer, you’ll need to assemble it first before you can use it. Fortunately, it’s not rocket science. There’s a handy manual included in the package – all you need to do is just follow the instructions and you’ll have the trailer up and running in a few minutes.

One of the best things I really like about this trailer is the Schwinn universal coupler. It’s literally a 1-minute job. You just need to insert the flat part of the coupler plate into the axle, and then tighten the washer and hub nut. Then slide the bar into the coupler, slide the locking pin, and then wrap the safety strap over the frame and coupler.

The steel frame is solid which means the trailer isn’t going to break down in the middle of your ride. The frame isn’t going to budge even with all the bumps on the road.

Getting your dog inside the trailer is going to be quick and easy. There are two ways you can get them inside. One is by letting them go through the back/doggy door or you can pick them up and drop them on the opening on top, a.k.a. sunroof.

If your dog’s new to the trailer scene, you may want to hook them up to the leash inside. It’s adjustable so you can keep it short to make sure they don’t fall over, but still be long enough so they can comfortably sit and peek over the top.

There's also a non-slip liner inside, so you need not be afraid of your dog sliding around the trailer as you bike. Of course, if you want to make them comfortable, you can line up the floor with a warm, fuzzy blanket. This will be great for long rides.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Folding steel frame for easy storage
    • Use the Schwinn universal coupler to attach to any bike
    • Inflate the 16-inch tires using any bike pump
    • Adjustable leash inside trailer
    • Rear doggy door
    • Washable trailer liner

    Cons

    • Some owners say this can tip when turning corners so it’s best to drive slowly

CONCLUSION: Is the Schwinn Rascal Pet Trailer a good buy?

Absolutely! This is one of the most budget-friendly trailers on this list. If you’ve got a fur baby who fits within the weight requirement and you’re not looking for the bells and whistles found in more expensive trailers, then this is a good buy.

Just a word of caution though as some buyers did say they’ve experienced this thing tipping over. Always be mindful and careful when making turns. Slow down and think about the dog behind you.

#2: DoggyRide Mini Dog Bike Trailer

Best bike trailer for small dogs up to 55 lbs

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 55 lbs / 15-inch shoulder height
  • Interior dimensions (L x W x H): 23 x 15 x 22 inches
  • Item weight: 22 pounds
  • Wheel size: 12.5 inches
  • Warranty: Lifetime
  • My thoughts on the DoggyRide Mini Dog Bike Trailer:

If you’ve got a 50-pound dog and you’re choosing between this DoggyRide Mini trailer and the Schwinn Rascal trailer, and you’ve got an extra 80 bucks or so, then I highly recommend you go for this trailer instead.

The DoggyRide Mini accommodates 5 more pounds of dog (55 pounds vs 50 lbs for the Schwinn), but at the same time this is actually lighter and more spacious than the Schwinn.

Built by DutchDog Design, the DoggyRide Mini is one of the safest and most stable pet trailers on the market.

The materials used in making these are top-notch, hence the price increase from the Schwinn is justifiable and not at all unreasonable. This is also the reason why this is one of the few trailers that meet the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards.

That said, this bike trailer offers a lot more breathing room for your dog. In addition to the front window, your dog can also get a better view by sticking his head out in the “sunroof.”

And just like the Schwinn Rascal, this also has a doggie door. But that’s where the similarity ends – DoggyRide takes its doggie door to the next level by adding a storage pouch and mesh pocket in the back! Pretty handy, I’d say!

It’s great for storing toys and treats, so when you go for a rest your dog can still play with his toys. The mesh pocket is also great for storing your water bottle so when you go on long rides, you and your dog won’t go thirsty!

This pet trailer is also highly versatile. You can use the cabin as a crate for your dog (this is great if you’re trying to get your dog used to the idea of riding in the trailer). And if you purchase the stroller conversion kit, you can transform the trailer into a fully functional pet stroller!

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Roof opening for when your dog wants to sit up
    • Quickly fold by removing locking pin
    • Rear doggie door has storage pouch and mesh pocket (fits most water bottles)
    • UV-resistant mesh fabric on both front and side panels
    • Quick release wheels
    • Triangular safety leash included
    • Plenty of openings to let fresh air in
    • Meets ASTM standards

    Cons

    • Cushioned mat not included in price

CONCLUSION: Is the DoggyRide Mini Dog Bike Trailer a good buy?

Yes, it definitely is! At first glance, it may appear more expensive than other pet trailers that can handle dogs up to 50-55 pounds. However, the quality of materials help ensure the safety of your pet. It’s also more likely to last longer than cheaper trailers.

Lastly, this trailer meets ASTM standards. And DutchDog Design is one of the few dog trailer manufacturers that actually offer a limited lifetime warranty on their products. That said, I think the DoggyRide Mini is a worthy investment for your hard-earned dollars.

#3: Best Choice Products 2-in-1 Pet Stroller and Trailer

Best value 2-in-1 pet bike trailer and stroller

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 66 pounds
  • Assembled dimensions (L x W x H): 24 x 27 x 22 inches
  • Item weight: 37 pounds
  • Wheel size: Front – 9.5 inches; Rear – 19 inches
  • Warranty: 60 days
  • My thoughts on Best Choice’s Pet Stroller and Trailer:

It’s nice to have options. And this product gives you two pet transport options at a very affordable price.

I love the versatility on this thing – if you want to go jogging, you can use it as a pet stroller. If you want to go cycling with your dog, you can use it as a pet trailer. Or, if you don’t want to bring the trailer/stroller along, just let your dog run beside you!

Transforming it from stroller to trailer is a simple matter of removing the front wheel (and then mounting it on the rear frame bar). Then unlock the trailer hitch from the bottom and attach it to your bike. That’s it!

Here’s another feature that makes this product special: the full suspension system. It offers easy mobility, so steering and navigating it through rough or paved roads isn’t going to be a problem.

The handlebar brake is also a nice feature – it’s within easy reach so making a quick stop is just a matter of squeezing the handle. Easy peasy!

When it comes to overall value, this is only slightly more expensive than the Schwinn Rascal. However, it can accommodate dogs up to 66 pounds – that’s considerably more dog for not much more money!

The interior is also roomy and thanks to the fabric windows, can easily let the air in. However, I have to say that it’s a bit disappointing for Best Choice Products not to include a plastic cover for the side panels.

I understand it’s the front window that’s going to be the front liner against the weather, but the wind can shift anytime, and rain can then enter the cabin via the side panels (a.k.a. bug screens).

Also, if you park the stroller, make sure you do it somewhere it’s not going to tip over. The moment you let go of the handle and your dog’s lying in the back, then it can potentially tip over. The 2 front wheel mount tubes at the back can also pose an injury risk if the trailer tips.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Great value for money because you’re essentially getting 2 types of pet carriers (stroller and trailer)
    • Rear tires have full suspension system for easy mobility
    • Sturdy but lightweight steel frame
    • Water-resistant polyester
    • Hand-lock brake system
    • Multiple pockets
    • Removable and washable cushioned pads
    • Hide-away bike hitch trailer

    Cons

    • Weather-resistant plastic cover is only on front window, not the sides
    • It’s prone to tipping if a heavier pup likes to lie down by the back (near the handle)
    • If you’re using it as a stroller, you may need to cover the front wheel mount tubes (at the back) to prevent injury to your dog

CONCLUSION: Is the Best Choice 2-in-1 Pet Stroller and Trailer a good buy?

Yes, it truly is a good buy. It’s a good quality product that costs a fraction of the price of more expensive trailers (that aren’t the 2-in-1 stroller/trailer kind). The full suspension system along with the lightweight steel frame makes pushing or pulling this product very easy.

I also like how self-contained this product is – you don’t need to bring anything extra to convert the stroller into a trailer and vice versa. Plus, the side pockets offer additional storage for your knickknacks.

#4: Booyah Dog Stroller and Pet Bike Trailer

Best 2-in-1 pet trailer and stroller for medium dogs

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 40-60 lbs
  • Dimensions (Interior) (L x W x H): 26 x 18 x 18 inches
  • Dimensions (Folded) (L x W x H): 28 x 22 x 7 inches
  • Item weight: 31 pounds
  • Wheel size: Front – 12 inches; Rear – 16 inches
  • Warranty: 1-year
  • My thoughts on Booyah’s Medium Pet Stroller and Trailer:

This 2-in-1 pet trailer and stroller from Booyah is quite similar to the Best Choice Product (BCP) we’ve featured in #3 above. However, it costs a bit more compared to the BCP version. And I think there’s good reason for that.

For one, there’s no tipping-over issue unlike the BCP. Booyah’s designers did a good job keeping this stable – they put the rear wheels a little bit more in the back. The pneumatic wheels are also a bit smaller than BCP’s.

When it comes to your dog’s comfort inside the trailer, they’ll find it comfortable thanks to the included cushion. Of course, if you want them to have a more enjoyable ride, you can add any thick blanket or mat on top of the default cushion.

Your dogs will also get a good view thanks to the mesh windows that are present on all sides (front, back, sides, roof). The front window comes with a plastic cover to protect your dog against rain.

The sunroof also has a thick canvas cover over the mesh. However, the sides are just mesh fabric – no plastic or canvas layer to protect them from rain, but it will provide tons of ventilation during good weather!

Similar to the BCP, this trailer/stroller also comes with two side pockets so you can put your stuff there and not worry about bringing an extra bag.

However, unlike the BCP, the brake on this thing is not on the handlebar which would have been preferable for easy access. There’s a manual brake lever on the left rear wheel. If you want to use this, you’d need to push it down so that the wheel is ‘locked’ in place.

Folding and storing this in your car isn’t too difficult. You can remove the front wheel, release the rear wheels and the handlebar, and the sides will then fold flat.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Pneumatic tires with full suspension
    • Stable and does not tip over even with dog lying in back
    • Quick-release rear tires
    • Side pockets
    • Adjustable handlebar
    • Bike trailer attachment stored underneath
    • Removable and washable cushion

    Cons

    • No plastic cover or canvas cover on side windows
    • Storage tube to store the front wheels in are exposed, so better cover that to avoid injury
    • Would prefer brake to be in handlebar

CONCLUSION: Is the Booyah 2-in-1 Pet Stroller and Trailer a good buy?

This may be a bit more expensive than the comparable BCP model. However, we think it’s an improved version considering you no longer need to worry about the tipping issues that hounded BCP owners.

So, to answer the question, yes this product is a good buy. But only you can decide if the extra 50 bucks is enough to justify the slightly improved Booyah version. That said, BCP only offers a 60-day warranty as opposed to Booyah’s one-year. The team here at FurBabyGuide.com thinks this more than justifies the extra dollars.

    #5: PetSafe HoundAbout Pet Trailer

Best bike trailer for big dogs over 80 lbs

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 110 pounds
  • Assembled dimensions (L x W x H): 33 x 22 x 26 inches
  • Item weight: 25 pounds
  • Wheel size: 20 inches
  • Warranty: Lifetime
  • My thoughts on the PetSafe Solvit Houndabout Trailer:

Bringing your older or sick pet with you on your cycling adventures is now made possible by this HoundAbout trailer. Most pet trailers made for big dogs are usually about a foot (or more) off the ground.

But this HoundAbout is low enough that dogs don’t need to jump to get inside. This is perfect for dogs who are suffering from arthritis and other diseases that affect their mobility.

The only downside to this low entry is that if you choose to buy the optional stroller kit, then you'll most likely keep on hitting your foot on the rear frame. But if you’re using it as a trailer, then it will pose no problems for you. And, of course, your pets will appreciate the accessibility.

Also, when it comes to the trailer’s frame, this product comes in both steel and aluminum versions. The steel one is heavier and a tad cheaper (about 10-20 bucks difference). But I think the lighter weight more than justifies the slight price increase. Additionally, the aluminum version is rust-proof which is obviously a very nice feature.

Another favorite feature of mine is the oversized sunroof. I suppose it helps negate the fact that the front and side windows are tiny (could have been a few inches bigger). Dogs will love getting their heads out so they can enjoy the sights and smells. Just make sure you secure your dog to the security leash, so he doesn’t get tempted to jump out.

Also, unlike other trailers this HoundAbout has 3 pockets – two on the side and one on the upper rear panel. These pockets will especially come in handy on long trips, so you don’t need to bring an extra bag with you.

That said, this is a great trailer. However, at this price, I would have expected the manufacturer to implement a full suspension system. I mean, even the cheaper Best Choice Product's 2-in-1 pet stroller/trailer has a suspension system.

But other owners seem to have no issue with the lack of suspension. The company’s official advice on this matter is to make sure the tires are inflated properly before every ride.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Foldable and easy to assemble
    • Rust-proof aluminum frame can carry heavy dogs up to 110 lbs
    • Interior cushion is removable and machine-washable
    • Sunroof is big enough for your dog to get a good view of his surroundings
    • Plenty of pockets
    • Extra wide wheelbase with lowered frame makes it easy for pets to enter trailer
    • Lifetime warranty from reputable company, PetSafe

    Cons

    • No suspension so make sure the 20” tires are inflated properly before using the trailer
    • Front and side windows could be bigger

CONCLUSION: Should you buy the PetSafe Solvit HoundAbout Pet Bike Trailer?

This trailer has a lot more pros than cons. For the price you’re getting it for and the company’s promise of lifetime warranty, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this trailer to pet owners out there. The durability and exceptional craftsmanship make this a must-buy for pets that weigh less than 110 pounds in total.

#6: Petego Comfort Wagon Bike Trailer

Best bike trailer for large dogs up to 165 lbs

    Technical Specifications:
  • Max load: 165 lbs
  • Dimensions (Assembled) (L x W x H): 35 x 26 x 24 inches
  • Warranty: No info
  • My thoughts on the Petego Comfort Wagon Bike Trailer:

Small dogs don’t get to have all the fun. The Petego Comfort Wagon bike trailer makes sure of that by accommodating dogs as large as 165 pounds! Sure, it’s a bit pricey, but the quality is top notch and your big pup will be safe inside.

The suspension system can handle all that weight and dragging the trailer behind your bike won’t be too challenging for you.

This trailer features 4 zip doors which means your dog can enter from any side he likes – front, back, left side, right side – no problem!

The zipper goes all the way down, too. So, if you want to leave a side ‘wall’, don’t unzip it all the way down. Instead, leave about one foot unzipped, so your dog’s got a bit of protection from falls.

Alternatively, if you just want to keep the side panels up, your dog’s still got plenty of ventilation thanks to the mesh windows. Speaking of ventilation, your dog will surely love the trailer’s sunroof! If your dog’s tall enough, he can stick his head out of the sunroof and feel the wind on his face!

The waterproof base is also a nice addition. It helps keep your pet dry which is especially helpful for elderly and disabled pets. If you want to add a cushioned mat or blanket, you can also do this.

Also, if you want to fold and store this trailer or use it as your dog’s ‘house’, then you’ll be pleased to know that the wheels are removable. So, you’ve got a portable dog home as well.

Now, this particular model can be converted into a pet stroller as well. However, you’d need to shell out some cash (about a third of the trailer’s price) for the Comfort Wagon stroller kit accessory (that’s the front wheel and handlebars for pushing the stroller).

At this price, I think the trailer should at least have one pocket. I don’t think that’s too much to ask. Sure, there’s a lot of space inside, but putting stuff in there when your dog’s inside isn’t so ideal.

Summary of the Pros and Cons:

    Pros

    • Lightweight but sturdy aluminum frame
    • Zip doors on all sides with claw-proof mesh
    • Removable sunroof
    • Full suspension system
    • Removable wheels
    • Waterproof bottom
    • Folds to about 20% of open size

    Cons

    • Need to spend extra for the stroller kit accessory
    • No pockets
    • Significantly more expensive than other trailers on this list

CONCLUSION: Should you buy the Petego Comfort Wagon Bicycle Pet Trailer?

Yes, if you’ve got a big dog, this is an excellent trailer for the money. As you’d probably expect, this trailer is sold at premium price.

The frame is made with aluminum which can easily handle the weight of a big dog. But it’s still light enough to pull with your bike (or push if you choose to buy the stroller kit).
