Summary of our detailed Kenmore 81614 Canister Vacuum Review:

Say hello to the Kenmore Pet PowerMate and goodbye to stubborn pet hair and dirt! This vacuum offers great value for money. Anyone who’s got pets (and a dirty house) will love the technology that powers this little vacuum!

One of the most frustrating things about upright vacuums is that they’re usually heavy and very tough to lug around. They’re mostly fine for indoors cleaning, but what about if you need to clean your car or truck?

In my case, I often bring my 2 dogs on road trips. This means, more often than not, my old pickup truck is muddy and dirty. With tons of pet hair all throughout.

I used to drag my old Hoover upright vacuum to the garage so I could clean my car, but it just got too tiring for me.

So, I decided to look for a new vacuum - one I can conveniently roll around to various places in my house. And one where all the accessories get stored in one easy-to-reach location.

So, I did some research and after some time, I finally found a vacuum that fit all my requirements. Meet the Kenmore 600-Series Bagged Canister Vacuum with Pet PowerMate.

Advantages of the Kenmore 81614 Pet PowerMate Canister Vacuum Cleaner

Favorite feature #1: Smooth-rolling wheels

To be honest, my kids have more fun with this vacuum than I do. And you know why? Because they love the smooth-rolling wheels!

They'll pretend they’re driving around a cart. And they’ll tie a toy to the hose and drag the poor thing around the house!

For cleaning though, I find the wheels to be super useful. It makes my life a whole lot easier knowing I don’t need to look back and see if the vacuum needs to be lifted up.

I just give a light tug on the handle and the canister will follow me. The floor brush even has tiny wheels which makes it super easy to glide the brush on carpets.

Pretty awesome, right? No wonder my kids enjoy the heck out of this thing!

Favorite feature #2: Pet PowerMate motorized attachment

I’ve always found pet hair stuck on couches and other upholstery to be very tough to remove. My old vacuum couldn’t keep up with my dogs’ hairs and my family’s been breathing tons of dander and allergen for years.

What I really appreciate about this Kenmore is that the Pet PowerMate accessory is really very powerful. It’s motorized and the rotating brush does quick work of sucking the embedded dirt on my couch.

The first time I used the Pet PowerMate on my couch, I was truly impressed. It looked absolutely brand-new! I couldn’t believe that it was able to remove all the dirt and hair that’s been stuck there for – literally - years!

Favorite feature #3: Four versatile tools with super easy onboard storage

Some brands offer these accessories at an extra cost. Fortunately, Kenmore includes these 4 tools in the package. And what's even better is you can store all these onboard the vacuum itself!

So, the 4 tools are:

  • Crevice tool – cleans furniture and between cushions
  • Floor brush – cleans bare floors, carpets, rugs, walls
  • Dust/upholstery brush – cleans furniture, drapes and walls
  • Pet PowerMate – perfect for cleaning furniture and stairs

Favorite feature #4: Aluminum telescoping wand

My fourth favorite feature is the telescoping wand. Remember the dogs in my car? Well, this is the tool that allows me to clean my car’s interior without needing to transform into a gymnast!

Cleaning hard-to-reach areas like ceilings and under furniture is now a lot easier as well because this telescoping wand can be adjusted up to 10 feet.

All you need to do is just push the 'wand adjust button’ and slide the wand accordingly. Pretty dope, right?

Favorite feature #5: Variable power control within easy reach

I don’t know about you, but I’m not a fan of vacuum manufacturers who put their dials and buttons a couple of feet away from your hand. Frankly, I want easy access to my buttons.

And with this Kenmore 600-Series vacuum, I’m super happy with the placement of the switch and the electronic suction control – these are on the handle itself!

So, moving from carpet to hard floor is as easy as extending my thumb and toggling the switch from ‘carpet’ to ‘hardfloor.’ If I want to turn off the machine, I just slide the switch to the ‘off’ position.

Favorite feature #6: Automatic cord rewind

I think this feature should be on all modern vacuums. I absolutely love the automatic cord rewind because I no longer need to manually wrap the cord around the vacuum.

To rewind, make sure you turn off the vacuum first and then unplug it from the power source. Then hold the plug while pushing the cord rewind button simultaneously. This prevents the cord from whipping around and potentially causing injury to anyone nearby.

Lastly, I also like the feel of the plug as it glides across my palm. It’s such a satisfying feeling knowing I’ve finished doing my job!

A Few Disadvantages

Disadvantage #1: Very short 1-year warranty

I find it sad that this awesome vacuum only comes with one-year warranty. The Shark Rotator NV752 comes with 7 years warranty. The Dyson Animal 2 and the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser 1650A offer 5 years warranty. Even the older Hoover WindTunnel UH70400 comes with a longer 2-year warranty.

Disadvantage #2: A bit noisy for some

I personally find this Kenmore to be a bit noisy but still within tolerable levels. However, if you’re used to quieter, smaller vacuums, then you may be annoyed by how relatively loud this thing can get. According to Kenmore, the noise level is less than 73dB.

Kenmore 81614 Actual User Reviews

We’ve compiled and summarized a few reviews from actual Kenmore 600-Series users:

If you have multiple surfaces in your house that you need to clean up every once in a while, that is, you’ve got hard floors, tiles, low pile to high pile carpets, then this going to be a worthwhile investment for you. I find it extremely useful to have the controls in the right places. I can quickly switch between hardfloors and carpets by flicking the controls on the handles. Likewise, if I need to adjust the nozzle height, there’s a little height adjustment pedal near the base. I just need to step on it (no need to bend down) and select the right height!
I’m a licensed pet breeder. I always have a lot of pets in my home – both my adult dogs and their puppies. Cleaning after them used to be such a chore, I usually did it like once a week. But when my wife and I finally had a kid, we knew we had to do something about the pet hair and their dander. We looked around on the web, and settled on this Kenmore. I’m so happy I made the right choice! I use the Pet PowerMate attachment like literally all the time!
My grandkids visit me once a week. I like to clean the house well in advance. In my old age, I wanted a good pet vacuum that I can easily drag around and not bother my back too much. This Kenmore vacuum fit the bill perfectly. Now, I can clean my house without asking anybody for help. And the HEPA filtration system works great as well! My grandkids no longer sneeze when they sit on the couch for hours!

Frequently Asked Questions About The Kenmore 81614 Pet Vacuum

  • What attachments are included for free?

There are 4 attachments included when you purchase: the Pop-N-Go floor brush, dusting brush, crevice tool, and the Pet PowerMate.

    • Is the HEPA dust bag replaceable?

Yes, it is replaceable. You can buy aftermarket HEPA dust bags on Amazon at a very affordable price. As soon as the ‘check bag indicator’ shows that the bag is full, you should go ahead and replace it with a clean one.

    • How often should I clean or replace the motor safety filter?

It depends on how often and how hard you use this vacuum. If you clean your whole house everyday, then chances are, the filter is going to get dirty faster. The best thing to do would be to check the filter occasionally and clean when necessary. You can wash the filter using warm, soapy water. For best results, check out the Kenmore 81614's user manual.

    • Is the vacuum heavy or light?

It’s a bit heavy at 22 pounds, but the smooth-rolling wheels make it very easy to move the vacuum around.

Should you buy the Kenmore 81614 600-Series Bagged Canister Vacuum?

Yes, please! I sincerely believe this vacuum gives excellent value for your money. It’s cheaper than the Dyson Animal 2. It may not have the same suction strength, but for the price you pay for it, it’s still a very good buy.

I like the fact that 4 extra tools and accessories are included in the price. It’s also a plus that the dust bags are available for cheap as well.
